Animal Reiki – what is it?

Animals have a chakra system similar to our own. Reiki energy is channeled to these energy centres to remove blockages, relax, de-stress and generally rebalance the “client”. Reiki works particularly well with animals as they work on an intuitive level, have no preconceptions and instinctively know what is best for them.

What happens in a session?

Depending on the size of the animal, the treatment can last from 10 minutes (for a tiny bird or hamster for example) to about an hour (e.g. .a horse). Therapy is generally given at the animal’s home, where it is comfortable and will feel secure and at a time when it would be relaxing. The therapist will sit quietly with the animal loose in the room/stable. The “client” is free to come as close as is comfortable and will often maneuver itself into a position so that the Reiki is directed over the appropriate area. Effects are usually noticeable – sighing, slowing down of breathing, in the case of horses the head comes down and chewing and “chin flopping” occurs. These are all signs of relaxation.

What are the benefits?

Reiki can treat many conditions at source, - behavioral problems, helping to heal broken bones/injuries, easing arthritic pain.

Please note: Reiki treatment cannot be given to a sick or injured animal unless it has first been treated by, and obtained clearance, from a vet.
